Government by the People Essay Example for Free
Government by the People Essay The population growth has caused concern for many Americans because of the terms of numbers and poverty that comes with this growth. There is a pattern showing of wealth transferring from poorer nations to the richer nations of the globe and the information technology revolution is speeding this cycle up. With population growth reaching new heights new concerns for increasing urban growth has emerged. Planning for transportation, environment protection, or management of water and other resources are needed. Unregulated markets forces will hurt individuals and ââ¬Å"politics as usualâ⬠will not mandate viable growth patterns or protect the air, water and natural beauty of our country. Planning and growth depends on public support and market forces. In order for plans to be effective they must show he same interests and values of major groups within the community. Even with the fear of the government, something that is generally accepted hampers a lot of effective planning. But it is clear that for any planning to work there must a consensus between ââ¬Å"planners, community leaders, and the popularly elected officials who must bear the responsibility for implementing the plansâ⬠(Magleby, Oââ¬â¢Brien, Light, Peltason Cronin, 2006, p. 649). This planning for our country, communities and societies along with its citizens has given the United States the status of world power. But controversy has erupted from the resent war with Iraq that questions our authority. Iââ¬â¢ve heard many individual claims that America is expanding its empire, rather than fighting for freedom. Our rise to a world power has come because of our industry, colleges and universities, multiple government institutions, military strengths. This along with our innovations in science, technology and medicine catapulted us into our status. Development of such things as television and jet airliners gave America the edge it needed to jump to the top of the ladder. They have also helped to spread our ideologies of democracy and westernization. It has created globalization and keeps it going. Our commerce and business growth has only helped with this globalization. Companies, such as IBM and General Motors have given the national government firm grounds in business. Our national government promotes ââ¬Å"a prosperous economy through its monetary and fiscal policiesâ⬠(Magleby, Oââ¬â¢Brien, Light, Peltason, Cronin, 2006, p. 437). The Department of Commerce has been at the center of the governmentââ¬â¢s efforts to promote economic growth and encourage businesses to do research and new development. These companies are at the heart of this economic growth plan. But more recently new development has been needed to keep these companies afloat as technology and innovation continues to climb new heights. Turning outdated companies into the companies of the future. The introduction of the electronic superhighway mandates companies to use e-commerce and if they canââ¬â¢t they might get left behind. The internet has given us a faster way for just about everything. It has even influenced society, culture and lifestyles. The Progressive Era began in United States during the mid 1890ââ¬â¢s and continued through World War I. It was a time when individuals were beginning to have concerns with the state of society. It also brought about a belief in human compassion and how new innovations along with scientific investigation could somehow show what the problem was with ways of solving the problems. This reformation shows even in todayââ¬â¢s time. Our social construct has great bearing on our national government. Take for example the debate on same-sex marriages. Our government has made laws that pertain to this issue, but some in society believe government has gone too far. But the core issue at stake, that I believe, has something to do with insurance. I donââ¬â¢t believe that our national government is trying to establish social norms, but rather maintain certain expectations of commerce and business. Reference: Magleby, D. Essay --
The main questions addressed in this research were based on the Medicago Truncatula- Sinorhizobium symbiosis that form indeterminate (non-reproducing bacteria) nodules. a) to see whether M. truncatula displays partner choice in picking the most efficient rhizobia between nitrogen fixing and non fixing bacteria in both pre- infection and post- infection scenarios. b) the authors also wanted to see if legumes can alter their allocation of carbon photosyntates to each nodule depending on how efficient the rhizobia is in each nodule. Authors of this article did this research because this symbiotic relationship is widely studied, but all the research done so far have been on determinate (bacteria is able to reproduce) nodules1 rather than indeterminate nodules. In previous research it was found that determinate nodules show both partner choice and allocation differentiation between efficient and non- efficient rhizobia. Answer2: Authors hypothesized that in Medicago Truncatula- Sinorhizobium that form indeterminate nodules will show partner choice in both pre infection and post infection scenarios and select for the most efficient rhizobia partner. They also hypothesized that the legume will show differential allocation of carbon photosyntates in each nodule depending on the number of nitrogen fixing and non fixing rhizobia in each nodule. Answer3: Figure # What method(s) gave this data? What do these data show? Figure1a The authors performed a split- root experiment to obtain data based on three different parameters and then used MANOVA analyses to compare the three parameters used in the experiment. They used Post hoc on all the measurements to use it to graph the differences. ANOVA to compare the mean of the two strains used... ...thors hypothesis. However, they were not able to show difference in the resource allocation to each nodule depending on the efficiency of bacteria in each nodule. Therefore they concluded that sanctioning is not present is not present in all legume unlike the partner choice. Answer5: The authors think that the discrepancy in the results of the previous researches and theirs regarding allocations by the legume to nitrogen fixing and non- fixing bacteria is that the authors used M. truncatula- sinorhizobium indeterminate nodules whereas other researchers used either soybean or yellow bush lupin determinate nodules. Since this is the first time such model is presented I think that there should be more researches focusing only the sanctions by legumes to the bacteria to better understand the symbiosis between M. truncatula - Sinorhizobium and sanctions in general.

Jubilee Essay
ââ¬Å"Jubileeâ⬠is a narrative written by Margaret Walker and was first published in 1966. The writer, instructor as well as intellectual was born in 1915 and is best recognized for her civil war narrative Jubilee as well as for her influential anthology of poems concerning ethnic assertion. Walkerââ¬â¢s narrative is one of the initial tales to present the African-Americanââ¬â¢s nineteenth century experience within the South from a feminine as well as a blackââ¬â¢s perspective. The narrative won the Houghton Mifflinââ¬â¢s Literary Fellowship Award, and is a fictionalized explanation of the life of Margaret Duggans Ware Brown, Walkerââ¬â¢s great-grandmother who was born in Dawson in Terrell state as a slave and lived during reconstruction inside South West Georgia. The narrative is based on tales Walkerââ¬â¢s maternal grandmother narrated to her. (Walker. M, 1999) The seriously celebrated historical narrative/long fiction centers on the story of Vyry, a bi-racial slave in the Civil War in America and deals with a number of subjects like racism, freedom, slaves or slavery, Civil war, women, christianity, reconstruction, African- Americans among other major themes. The narrative is set in Georgia and afterward in diverse sections of Alabama during the mid-1800s prior to, during, as well as following the civil war. The following is an explanation of the setting in place and time, the manner in which the author takes the reader there, the major characters, the history studied from the narrative, what the reader can study concerning civil war, slavery and reconstruction, whether the author views slavery as paternalistic or autocratic as well as what the narrative states concerning why reconstruction was not successful.

Chilean Journalism Practices And How They Have Evolved And...
Claudia Mellado and Claudia Lagos, journalism professors at Chilean universities conducted a study on Chilean journalism practices and how they have evolved and responded to changes within the culture. Different platforms took different directions depending on whether they were national and supported by the government or private and supported independently. (Mellado 140) As the Chilean government allowed more ââ¬Å"freedom of speechâ⬠with the country, more media platforms came about. (Mellado 140) ââ¬Å"During this time, the more professional press was born, looking more like what we understand as a newspaperâ⬠in addition to news, all forms of media took off in the early 20th century. (Mellado 140) As the Chilean government began to allow moreâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦(Zagidullina 491) However, when the values of the nation change, and become more regulated, so does the press. As seen in both the study on Russia and Chile the press is greatly impacted by the cul ture of the country and the reign of the government. The past studies have determined that culture change has a great impact on journalism all over the world. Along with culture impacts is culture change, and how that influences the journalistic environment of a particular area. Culture change, as defined by Pearsonââ¬â¢s Third Edition on Cultural Anthropology, changes in peopleââ¬â¢s ways of life over time by both internal and external forces. (Bonvillian 490) One of the most significant changes to the Western World in the current era is the invention and expansion of social media. Social media allows people to have instant communication with anyone from anywhere in the world, sharing ideas, pictures, video and even news. Modern events can be heard about from those who witnessed them and posted on social media before a news source is even on site. A team of researchers conducted a study on Popular Culture and Communication Practice that traced the evolution and changes in jou rnalism based on culture, communication and media changes. ââ¬Å"Most research on popular culture address fiction, television, and forms of expression that aim at entertaining an audienceâ⬠(Buhmann 8) However, this study goes in depth on the impacts of popular culture

Art in War - 2048 Words
Art in War A pioneer of artistic influence in American culture, Frederick Childe Hassam led the revolution of art in the World War I era. In the midst of a world crisis, Hassam became a trailblazer of his own technique; he promoted a new form of Impressionism that not only reinforced the subtlety and free-flow style of French Impressionism, but also reinforced the vivacity and tenacity that he wanted to express. Amalgamating the techniques of French Impressionism with the nationalistic values of the American art and culture, Hassam promulgated what was eventually known as American Impressionism. However, throughout this ââ¬Å"assembly processâ⬠, Hassam never forgot his goal: to vividly capture the patriotism that the American, British, and French people all shared in a time of upheaval, and use it to unite them. He displayed the newfound and unlikely alliance between the Allied powers through his art, and in doing so, progressively strengthened the alliance between France, Grea t Britain, and the United States. In Europe and the United States, the American Impressionists witnessed the transformation from an agrarian to an industrialized urban society, especially over the course of time leading up to the war. Hassam was simultaneously excited by change and nostalgic for the reassuring and familiar past. Unlike many painters, Hassam did not spend a lifetime in pursuit of his art with little critical, social or financial recognition. Most important for this report is to prepare work centered analysis. This analysis includes customers, products and services, and business activities. After that I need to make analysis from the reading about that business. Moreover need to provide some recommendations to the company that can manage their business in better way in this modern era. After that, need to provide an implementation plan based on recommendation and also helps to minimize the negative effects of digital disruption on that company. Introduction to the case Background: Online banking is a part of banking innovation. Commonwealth bank of Australia was founded in 1911, and started its business in 1912 by first governor MR. Denison Miller. This bank was established for saving and general banking business purposes. After World War 1, this bank provided some authorities like war loans and shipping fleet. As time passed, commonwealth bank changes its several organization structures. From 1997 to 2003, it launched two business strategies. In this period, they became aware about internet and other IT performance support systems that helped for improvements in IT innovation, performance and other cost control business. In 2006, Australian bank operates its largest financial distribution network in Australia and opens more than 1000 branches, 135000 EFTPOS terminals. It helps to increase more than 2.5 million customers as they start internet banking services. After that, from 2006 to 2011, new CIO saw that technology and baking both are running in separate direction. He found there was more duplication, high errors and there is lack between interactions with customers. Thus, they launch new required technology that was good in speed and quality of services, minimum cost projects to be run. They replace all older banking system with SAP. Another challenge was about security and securing strategy. This strategy might be for single or multiple suppliers and users. These all things implemented in 2001 to 2006 (Willcocks Reynolds, 2014). Another challenge was It governance and its structure. For this change CIO, s made new It governance strategies and also recon structs IT structures of the company according to demand of IT business functions. Lastly, they need to provide some better plans for international students that make ease for them. An implementation plan based on the recommendations Commonwealth need to build strong relationship between international students, because 50 to 70% of students in Australia are international students. So commonwealth needs to start a new project about international students that can help international students to manage their fees and other funds while sitting in their home country.
